I give Artemis Fowl by Eion Colfer 5 out of 5 stars. The book starts off with Artemis and his person body guard called Butler on a hunt in Vietnam. There he is looking for a book that contains the rules of the possibly existing fairy world. He eventually finds it and decodes it, this leads to shape the whole story.
The main plot of the story was basically Artemis kidnapping Captain Holly Short and holding her for ransom. He wanted 1 ton of unmarked 24 carrot gold in exchange for the fairy. Using the book of fairy rules he decoded to his advantage he outsmarted them since they were not aware of it. At the end he ends up giving half of that gold and Holly grants his mother sanity, then they part ways until next time.
It seems the theme of this story is conflict between good and evil with Artemis in himself which seems to be caused by greed. But in reality it appeared Artemis just wanted to make his father proud and was trying to distract himself from his mothers insanity with his crazy adventures. I love this book because of the way Artemis thinks, he is so clever and young but simple and though he doesn’t have the best intentions you can tell her really cares for his family. I would love to have his knowledge or be able to take things in from his point of view.
